Stephen Fry supports Father Paul Kelly's cry for an end to Qld's 'gay panic' defence loophole

An Australian Catholic priest, Father Paul Kelly, started an online petition to lobby the Qld State Government to change laws that allow the possibility of a reduced sentence in assaults , where a homosexual advance is used as a defence. Kelly became aware of the loophole when a man was murdered outside his Maryborough church in 2008 and the gay panic defence was used to try and reduce the accused’s sentence. British comedian Stephen Fry has joined calls for an end to Queensland’s ‘gay panic’ legal loophole as the Change.org petition on the issue passed the 10,000 signature today.
Good Lord! What has become of the traditional religious justice? Just as well we still have Sydney Anglicans!
